Mind The Gap

Hello. My name is Ralph, and I’m anĀ Arizonan by way of Wyoming. I’m a Christian, a husband, a father of four, and a sportswriter. I kind of think it’s fun when all the numbers on my car’s odometer form a pattern. I do not like pineapples.

I believe our time is best spent closing the gaps between who we are and who we want to be. I believe our time is worst spent letting those gaps fill with resentment and regret.

The title is an homage to Ursula Le Guin’s “The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas.” LeGuin wrote that she couldn’t describe the place where people wandered off to once they discovered that the Utopia they enjoyed was built on the foundation of a terrible injustice. I feel like that’s us– the post-innocence wanderers. This blog is just me trying to describe where my feet land on that journey.
